Vermont has officially launched online sports betting, with three sportsbooks now live and operational.

Vermont's venture into online sports betting commenced on January 11th, with DraftKings, Fanatics, and FanDuel actively accepting wagers.

The legalization of sports betting in Vermont received approval from Governor Phil Scott in June 2023, subsequent to legislative endorsement. The Department of Liquor and Lottery designated DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook as the authorized operators for sports betting within the state. While the launch dates for DraftKings and FanDuel were anticipated on the same day, Fanatics had initially planned for a later opening. However, all three sportsbooks are now live and accessible online.

Wendy Knight, the Lottery Commissioner, reported that within the initial 12 hours of sports betting availability, approximately 7,000 individuals completed full registrations across all three platforms. During this period, the total wagers averaged around $15,000 per hour.

Knight further noted that mobile betting is projected to yield approximately $7 million in revenue for the state within its inaugural year of operation. The promising start with high registration numbers and hourly wagering suggests a robust beginning for Vermont's online sports betting industry.

I see Vermont's move into online sports betting as promising for revenue and entertainment. Yet, I'm cautious about the potential risks, hoping regulations adequately address concerns like addiction. I'm hapeful about its impact but mindful of the need for responsible gambling measures
