Macau casino employees adopt a wait-and-see approach regarding their summer bonuses

Macau casino staff anticipate a "summer bonus" as their workload returns to pre-pandemic levels but understand operators' financial challenges.
Macau casino staff anticipate a "summer bonus" as their workload returns to pre-pandemic levels but understand operators' financial challenges.

Macau casino workers hope for the return of a "summer bonus," acknowledging the challenges faced by operators but noting their increased workload since the reopening of the tourism market in January. While they desire the bonus, they understand the financial struggles of casino operators and anticipate it might not materialize until the end of this year or next year.

Lei Iok Po from the Power of Macau Gaming and Cloee Chao Sao Fong from the New Macau Gaming Staff Rights Association emphasize the importance of resuming pay rises and bonuses following pre-pandemic norms, especially for mass-market gaming staff who are experiencing higher workloads due to increased patronage. Chao also mentions some gaming companies have reduced staff numbers by offering early retirement options to senior employees, leading to increased workloads for existing employees.

Hi! in my opinion, the fair compensation must be prioritized, particularly for mass-market gaming employees who work longer hours as a result of rising demand. Their commitment and diligence have a major impact on the industry's performance, therefore it's only right that they receive the proper acknowledgement and compensation.

Personally, I can see why this approach is being used. The casino sector in Macau is highly dependent on tourism and foreign tourists; public health concerns and travel restrictions have a big influence on the industry's profitability. As a worker, I respect the practicality of waiting to set expectations on the amount and timing of bonuses until after these outside circumstances have taken effect.

The struggle's real for Macau's casino workers. Bonuses are hoped for, but they get the operators' financial strain. Getting back to pre-pandemic pay norms matters, especially for those managing heavier workloads. Fair compensation for their dedication is a must. Tough spot for both parties.

Certainly! "Macau's casino employees are eagerly anticipating the revival of the 'summer bonus,' their enthusiasm fueled by the added responsibilities taken on since the January resurgence in tourism"🙂

I appreciate that the staff is aware of the financial struggles that casino operators are facing. It's hardly surprising that the bonus they're expecting might not arrive until the end of this year or even next year because it's a difficult situation for both parties. I hope the problems that they are facing will be solved soon, and it will be more beneficial for them. 🙂
