In September, Jeju Dream Tower casino resort in South Korea experienced a 20.0% month-on-month decline in casino sales, totaling KRW 14.33 billion (US$10.6 million), as reported to the Korea Exchange. This followed a 10.9% drop in August sales compared to July.


Despite the monthly drop, September's year-on-year gaming-business sales showed remarkable growth of 336.1%. These figures are reported after deducting rebates and commissions.


Table-game sales in September reached nearly KRW 13.15 billion, down 17.4% from August but up 358.3% from the previous year when the Covid-19 pandemic still impacted tourism on the island. Machine-game sales for the month stood at approximately KRW 1.19 billion, down 40.8% sequentially but up 183.8% from the previous year.


The September casino table "drop," the amount customers spent on purchasing chips for table games, was about KRW 103.76 billion, marking a 21.8% sequential decrease but a 67.7% increase compared to the previous year.


Jeju Dream Tower reported 28,165 casino visitors in September, only a 1.9% decline from August when it achieved a record of 28,718 casino visitors since its opening in June 2021, according to data from the resort's operator, Lotte Tour Development Co Ltd.


Hotel sales for September amounted to approximately KRW 7.91 billion, down 24.9% sequentially and 7.5% year-on-year, as indicated in the Tuesday filing. The filing did not provide specific reasons for these fluctuations.


For the first nine months of the year, the casino achieved total sales of nearly KRW 100.36 billion, up 186.5% from the previous year. Table-game sales were KRW 90.22 billion for the same period, a 187.0% year-on-year increase, while machine-game sales rose by 182.7% to nearly KRW 10.14 billion. The cumulative casino table drop for the first nine months of the year amounted to KRW 888.16 billion, up 180.0% from the previous year.


Hotel sales in the January to September period stood at approximately KRW 69.27 billion, representing a 23.2% decline from the same period the previous year.
