This decision, announced by CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar on October 16, is attributed to the increasing popularity of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots and the prevailing macroeconomic pressures impacting the tech industry as a whole.
Stack Overflow, a venerable tech-centric question-and-answer forum with a 15-year history, serves millions of developers, coders, and technology enthusiasts. In 2022, the platform significantly expanded its workforce, doubling it to 540 employees. However, this week's layoffs affect about 150 of these employees. Stack Overflow has also experienced a slight decline in web traffic compared to the previous year, with an average decrease of 5%. The company attributes this reduction to developers exploring GPT-4 following its release in March.
